Mama I Became a Sculptor

In 2013, I listened to my father who keeps saying, "I'm not telling you to stop. Do it but as a hobby," so I added another one to my existing countless hobbies. Sculpting!

I don't have the ability to create comics but I had an idea of one. I went to a meeting Drink 'n' Draw to meet someone who can. Everything started with a teacher who also attended to the meeting. She came with bags full of art materials which she got from a art materials' fair. She handed me a package of clay while we were on a bus going home, saying, "Take it! Look! It's so soft!" before she jumbed out of the bus. I was already in love with Mary and Max so I decided to start with that. I also met a sculptor friend at the meeting.

I behaved like a mom who says "We have that at home." I thought I could make a Mary and Max sculpture at home. We got some food & drinks, sat on a bank at Maçka Park and started working. The clay I had was opened and it was a little bit dry. We added water try to make it work but it kept drying. It was summer and I was a complete amateur. I got a print out that you can see the character from the front. (As you can imagine, I'm more professional now, being able think of getting prints of a couple of different angles.)

We tried to figure things out for a couple of hours and after five hours the character was complete. I spent two hours trying to make threads out of clay and failing. Then I decided using real threads.I spent another hour whining about the mouth my sculptor friend made. Only the rest of the time was real work. Now Mary is drying at home but I think it won't be water-resistent. The next attempt is gonna be Max using a proper clay this time.
